Dr. Marcia Anderson DeCoteau
Strong Principled Leadership

Sande Harlos MD, MSc, FRCPC

I enthusiastically support Marcia’s candidacy for presidency of the CMA!  I have worked with and admired Marcia for the past 15 years with the opportunity to see her in many roles and relationships. I am confident that her vision, attitudes, skills and energy is exactly what the CMA needs at this point in time. Marcia balances strong leadership and uncompromising integrity with personal warmth and a ready smile. She listens to the many sides of complex issues, does not hesitate to engage in difficult conversations, and finds paths forward that others have not envisioned.  She is a passionate advocate for the rights and strengths of Indigenous peoples and communities, and is a shining example of how new solutions can arise when looking at issues from both Indigenous and Western perspectives. She can build consensus, gather energy around common ground, and inspire action. Given the urgent need to address unjust gaps in health status related to structural disadvantage in Canada, in particular for Indigenous peoples, the CMA needs Marcia’s leadership.
